That big sucking sound...
"Efthimiou takes out the calculator to prove that if a vampire sucked one person's blood each month - turning each victim into an equally hungry vampire - after a couple of years there would be no people left, just vampires."

Gone but not forgotten
The last Ford Taurus. We had one, a 1993, until someone crashed into it one night a few days before Christmas.

Fine Art
Quite by chance, I wandered into an art gallery in Chelsea on Saturday with my friend Jackie, and discovered a new artist, the landscapist Ray Turner. I was quite taken with style and his wonderful treatment of light. I managed to find a few samples on his work here and there with a bit of Googling. Quite nice.

By the light of the silvery moon
Hey, I got a ukulele! Played it this morning at Matt Umanov Guitars on Bleecker St., made the deal and paid the shipping... should be in my home by the weekend.

A Story of Hope
My web site client Southern Mutual Help Association (SMHA) has been doing some astoundingly effective work in rebuilding south Louisiana after the devastation wrought by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. We've been highlighting some of those stories on the web site, and we added one today about a family in Delcambre, LA, which I am sharing here as much as anything for Jamie Rose's terrific photograph that leads the story.

You need a Z, and...
When the time comes, and I'm playing Scrabble, and I have the letters for it, will I remember the word zenana?

Men's Fashion
Today I launched a new web site for the Men's Specialty Retailer F.Camalo in Lafayette. The most compellling part of the project was being around all the amazing fabrics and leather used in really top-quality Italian designer clothing. My guess is that for many buyers, the quality of the materials is a stronger attraction than the fashion -- though of course the cut of the clothes in the hands of a great designer itself makes all the difference.
