What time is it?
I regularly peek at the clocks on the three computers I mostly use, and the two cable boxes in our house. I hardly wear a watch any more, since I have a cell phone at hand to see the time. Those clocks are all set by someone else, deriving time from some remote server somewhere.

I set the clocks on both the kitchen stove and microwave (when they get slightly out of sync, I explain to visitors that our kitchen lies right at the incremental fault line of two micro time zones), as well as the one on the new toaster oven, and might glance at any of them for the time. There is a wall clock in the vestibule and a dashboard clock in each of our two cars, which I set, but the XM satellite radio gets its setting from space. Even though I hardly wear it, let's count the watch, since I set that. Susan has a watch and a cell phone, and I think they each are used for the time.

The score: 8 clocks set by distant servers, 7 set by us local folks. During workdays, I get much more of the time from servers, being either in front of my computer or out somewhere at a meeting and fondling my cell phone hoping for a distraction. On non work-days, I'm more likely to get the time from the stove top as I cruise through the kitchen.

So, when I work I'm scheduled by machines, and when I play I'm free to my own interpretation. I'm thinking of slewing the stove clock by an hour or two and having my own time grid for the weekends. Or, just portraying the stove as being in a really different time zone altogether.

What Ails Me?
I am taking a CAT scan in the morning to ascertain if something in my sinus cavities is responsible for the persistent cough that has bothered me since mid-March. Today's chest X-Ray didn't find any huge pools of fluids in my lungs -- could I have a CAT in my head?

Update: No cats in my head, and I got a purple cough syrup and some yellow pills that seem to be greatly relieving the symptoms. These are, of course, LSU colors, not that this at all influenced any of the medical professionals helping me.
