Fish story?
Reported last night at a dinner party as having been overheard amongst the daily announcements at a re-convening school in recently Ike-flooded Delcambre, LA.: "Don't pick up the dead fish on the playground."

Stormy Weather
Gustav has just left. Ike threatens. What's not to like?

12 not-so-bad things about having back-to-back hurricanes:

1. You won't lose much in the way of frozen food, since you just threw out all the things that rotted in your freezer a couple of days ago.

2. This time, you won't have to worry about that big limb that just fell on your patio.

3. Really, the refrigerator hasn't looked this clean in years, and it looks like it will stay that way for longer than you thought.

4. Now that you finally found all the flashlights and candles, you'll be able to use them some more.

5. All those batteries you were lugging in from the store when your electicity came back on are now suddenly useful again!

6. You have even more time to re-schedule all the meetings that were set for last week and this week.

7. You might actually get to eat that second can of corned beef hash which you would never, never eat in any other conditions.

8. All those people you just did favors for know it's their turn.

9. You will get to use every last one of the t-shirts you saved for dirty tasks like yard cleanup.

10. It's a crisis! It is OKAY to eat potato sticks right from the can!

11. The awning is already down.

12. No use putting yourself out cleaning up that last corner of the yard... yet!

Putting the gust in Gustav
We are with power, etc. after the passage of Hurricane Gustav, although just across the street our neighbors have been without electricity for four days. We are doing laundry for, delivering ice to and serving an occasional meal for a few that we know still without juice. But, all in all, we are just fine and things are getting back to normal. I have not included any photos because they would look just like the ones I posted for Hurricane Lili six years ago. You know, some downed limbs, a dramatic shot or two from the most unfortunate of tree falls, something about the power being out, and then something about things being more back to normal. The ones from 2002 can serve just as well.

Gustav
For the first time ever, I have left home during a hurricane. There is a mandatory evacuation order in Iberia Parish where I live, so we went 20 miles inland to Lafayette to stay with friends. As I write, Gustav has just come ashore near Cocodrie, LA. It should move right over New Iberia, but as a much weaker storm than many we have endured. We're hoping to return to only the usual post-storm cleanup of downed limbs, etc.
